| How We Met, the short version |
We met in the summer of 2004, when Kristi moved to Lafayette to be the CDE there. Nick was still working the overnight shift at the desk, and they would talk sometimes when Kristi would come in late or get called for an emergency.
On July 7, 2005 (Nick's birthday), Kristi was leaving a movie theatre on the Lower East Side when she ran into Nick on the street. She asked how his job was, and he said he wasn't happy there. Kristi told Nick that there was a manager position opening in Lafayette, and he should apply for it. Two months later, Nick had the job and they spent the entire school year working 10 feet from each other.
In June of 2006, Kristi was promoted to Assistant Director, and left Lafayette. Nick took her to lunch, and she was sad about leaving their relationship behind. Still, Nick and Kristi spent a lot of time together during this summer, talking about relationships and what it means to be in love. It was a tough summer, but through that they grew very close. It seemed as if something was happening, but neither was quite sure how the other felt.
On the night of August 23, 2006, Kristi and Nick were at a bar in Brooklyn. It was getting late, so Nick walked Kristi to the subway. He gave her a hug, and picked her up- this was unusual behavior for them. Kristi went onto the subway platform, thought for a while, and wrote a text message telling Nick that she was feeling confused about her feelings for him, and that she was very postmodern for saying it in a text message. Nick called her on the phone, confessed that he had liked her for some time, and asked her out to dinner the next night.
